HIV・エイズ、結核、マラリア撲滅のための対外援助法 (8/6/08)

ブッシュ大統領は7月30日、 HIV・エイズ、結核、マラリア撲滅のための対外援助に関する法案に署名しました。この法案は、2008年に終了する大統領エイズ救済緊急計画（President's Emergency Program for AIDS Relief, PEPFAR）を延長する法案で、援助対象はHIV・エイズのみならず、結核やマラリアまで含まれます。援助額は2009年から2013年までの5年間で総額480億ドルに達します。

食糧安全保障に関する報告書 (7/7/08)

米農務省は７月３日、世界の食糧安全保障に関する報告書を公表しました。それによると、発展途上国70か国の食糧事情は、今後10年間でさらに悪化することが予想されています。これらの国々で１日に必要な栄養を摂取できない人の数は、2006年時点で８億4900万人に達しており、2007年には９億8200万人に増加しています。

2008年人身売買報告書 (6/5/08)

国務省人身売買監視対策室より６月４日、「2008年人身売買報告書」が公表されました。この報告書は人身売買撲滅に対する世界各国の取り組みをまとめたもので、今年で８年目なります。世界170カ国を人身売買の摘発や防止の度合いにより４段階に格付けしていますが、去年に引き続き日本は上から２番目の「第２階層」と位置づけられています。

公聴会「気候変動と脆弱な社会」 (3/6/08)

米下院外交委員会のアジア太平洋および地球環境小委員会は２月27日、気候変動と脆弱な社会に関する公聴会を開きました。国務省からは気候変動問題に関する特別代表のワトソン博士が、昨年12月のバリ国連気候変動会議以降の状況を証言しました。また、海面上昇によって影響を受ける太平洋の島々からの代表も証言を行いました。

第３回国際再生可能エネルギー会議 (3/6/08)

再生可能エネルギーの国際的な普及促進を検討する「第３回国際再生可能エネルギー会議」が、３月４日からワシントンで開催されています。米国政府からは、ブッシュ大統領に加え、ボドマン・エネルギー長官、シェーファー農務長官、ネグロポンテ国務副長官らが出席しています。ブッシュ大統領は３月５日の声明で、温室効果ガス主要排出国間の国際協定ができた場合には、米国も参加する意思があることを述べました。

エネルギー省報告書「Climate VISION Progress Report」 (2/13/08)

米エネルギー省は２月11日、"Climate VISION"に関する報告書を発表しました。"Climate VISION"は、エネルギー集約型産業が温室効果ガス排出濃度を削減するための官民共同イニシアティブです。2002年にブッシュ大統領は、GDP当たりの温室効果ガス排出濃度を2012年までに18％削減することを目標に掲げましたが、このイニシアティブは、その目標達成に向けた取り組みの一つです。今回の報告書によると、2006年までに9.4%の排出濃度削減が達成されています。

第２回主要排出国会議 (2/4/08)

エネルギー安全保障と気候変動に関する主要排出国会議が、ハワイのホノルルにて１月30、31の両日に開催されました。この会合は、昨年９月にワシントンで開催されて以来２度目となります。前回に続いて、京都議定書以降の新たな国際的枠組みの合意を目指し、主要国間の話し合いが行われました。
